We have a friend in Illinois who we'll just call 007.
One day while 007 was teaching his son how to drive, he had a discussion about the light turning.
His son told him to scoot up so that his tire would make the light turn green. 007 said, "Who told you that?"
"There's not a sensor in the street that will make the light turn green!"
In fact, I believe I heard him say that this was the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard!
I personally always believed there was.
Then one day here in Wisconsin, I was at a red light hootin' and hollerin' because i remembered my camera!!!

I always thought there were sensors too. Did you send it to him??
I've known about the sensors for a long time. You can see the lines in the roads where they put them.
I have NEVER heard of this before. I'll have to try it. Speaking of teaching your son how to drive...just got back from my son driving to school. I swear, sometimes he does really well, unlike today. It was like this morning was his first time behind the wheel. God help me!!
tommiea- I did send it to him but he hasn't responded. :)
Wendy-i saw those lines too, but it had never been confirmed!
tess- I know what you mean, I think when there is a gap in the practice time, it takes a turn or two to get their groove going again. (that was my yesterday, turns were WILD)
I know it's mixed here in California. Some of our roads have sensors in them, some are on the lights, and some lights are just on timers if it's a high traffic area. Great pic though, totally something I'd take a pic of too, for proof for the non-believers!!
